What happens when I register?
You will need an email address with a NHS within its domain. You will receive a notification to this address with a link. By following the link you will be taken to the payment page. Here there is an option to pay by PayPal or enter a coupon code. The annual membership is currently discounted by 50% to £25 per year. Once submitted your registration will be reviewed to check your details are valid. This may take up to 2 working days. This will then guide you through the minimum registration stage (approximately 1min). Following this you can then complete your profile further (please do!) and start to explore other profiles.
Do I have to have an NHS email address?
Yes, this allows us to ensure you are who you say you are. NHS.net emails can be easily applied for via the IT department of your CCG. NHS.uk emails that you have via a hospital or practice will also work. If you are struggling with this requirement please contact us.
How do I search for people?
This is done via the search button on the top toolbar. You can select anything from this advanced search feature. This includes region, age, specialities ( previous training). Postgraduate exams and extended role.
Is my data secure?
We take the security of your data very seriously and have taken the required standards to ensure it. We are registered with the information commissioner’s office (ICO) and do not pass on your details to third parties.
For GPs with established extended roles
Do I have something to offer in a coaching capacity?
If you have any variety of extended role in general practice then please create a profile to help inspire others. The term coach may seem daunting, but it shouldn’t. By having developed an extended role and continuing to work within it you will be able to give advice to those starting out. It is that simple.
Will it consume a lot of my free time?
The majority of users will gain lots of information simply from visiting your profile and the links you have displayed. Internal messages you may receive will be similar in nature to those enquires you have received throughout your career when supporting junior colleagues. We have designed the website to reduce replication for all users. GP+ Networking stores documents and saved responses to common enquiries so that you keep typing to a minimum. This maximises networking and sharing ideas through experience but with minimal time commitment.
A really helpful feature is ‘My available downloads’. Any document which you have found useful when developing your own role please upload and share. This may be an application, consent form, formal guidance, patient information leaflet or anything you wished you had had when starting out.
Are there any benefits for those established within an extended role?
It is not all about coaching. Creating a profile gives you the benefit of communication with other GPs with similar interests using the internal messaging system and chat functions. GP+ Networking is the perfect platform for growing our own network, developing a new service or indeed a new extended role yourself! GP+ Networking bridges the whole of your medical career. As an additional thank you for supporting the ethos behind GP+ Networking we have added a free job advertisement section ‘opportunities at my practice’ to attract enthusiastic new GPs to work with you.
Am I held accountable for my advice?
The advice given on the website should be viewed as professional advice or an opinion. This is no different to informal conversations with colleagues in any other setting. This is not designed as a clinical site although principles in practice may be discussed you must not give patient identifiable data. Further details are given in our terms and conditions and code of conduct prior to registration.
For medical students
How do I register as I do not have an NHS email or GMC number?
Please ask you university GP society chair/lead to invite you to the site. If your university GP society has not got a nominated administrator, then they can contact us to set this up. We will be expanding this over the coming months. If you are unsure, please contact us directly.
